THIS WEEK: CLEANING THE MAILBOX AND DEBUTING NEW MUSIC!

Here is the recap of the July 25 program:

Thanks to our guest this week, Altoona-based singer, songwriter and guitarist Conner Gilbert (www.myspace.com/connergilbertmusic).  Conner updated us on his latest happenings, and debuted a new song he recorded recently.  He also brought along the acoustic guitar and treated us to three songs done live on the air!  Along the way, we debuted new tunes from The Clarks, Gerry Stanek and Gerry's kid-geared rock project, Roy Handy and the Moonshot.  We also dug a unique 1998 rock-apella song by Del Coy from the archives for a "Local Music Flashback," updated "Local Music News," and reviewed Nancy Micciulla's The One to Shine CD in "The Professor's CD Corner."  Another action-packed show!

In Local Music News...

A longtime drummer from area stages has passed away.  Leon "Butch" Noel of Johnstown passed away last Sunday at age 55.  Noel played drums for a number of bands dating back to the ‘70s; including Ice, Bitter Route, Mojo, The Alternative and more.

Altoona-based punk-rocking favorites Dick Shack Posse have announced their new singer; and it is a familiar face from the Altoona area punk scene, Tim Mort, also the frontman for Chapter 5.  Tim replaces Scoob Lanzendorfer, who moved on to pursue other interests.

Altoona's Acalasia will be doing some "Mmm-Bopping" in August.  The group won a contest through the website Ourstage.com, and gets to open a concert for Hanson on August 21 in Columbus, Ohio.  The contest is a nationwide promotion for Hanson, who is touring in support of their new album, Shout It Out.  Winners are being selected to open for the group throughout their nationwide tour.  Acalasia will open for the group at Newport Music Hall in Columbus.
